Okay, NO, it is not a real General Electric 6550A, but it is at least keeping up with the real deal for a while. These won't last as long, but you are not paying $150 each or more. The 6550A was a real deal 42 watt valve. 6550 and KT88s were 35 watt valves. These are a good solid 40-42 watts per valve. I can't design and sell roadworthy amps if the owners cannot go find ready replacement valves. These don't quite have the same tone as the venerable GE staple of the high power USA power audio tube. These have been used in everything from Ampeg VT 1002s, SVTs and JCM800s to Conrad Johnson stereos. They do a good job in either application. I just dropped a quad into a VT1002. I forgot just how awesome these old Lee Jackson Ampegs were! WOW! Everything from the heavy hi gain JCM sound to a more classic European sound when I dropped in a quad of Winged C EL34s, or Sinos. All the modern valve makers, and companies like Valve Art, Tube Amp Doctor, Ruby, and to a lesser extent GT are riding the mfgrs for better valves, and it seems we are seeing some improvements! These VA 6550As are pretty nice! I wish I could toss in an extra half a star, as these just fall a teeny bit short for me. The top end is just a bit whispy for me. Chinese tubes can be that way. They don't quite have that ringing singing top end. Close, but ....
