I liked these, from the first time I tried them. They are not as high a gain as some of the other 12AX7s, but the tone is nice and so are the noise levels. All the newer 12AX7s kind of suck, compared to some of the great NOS valves, but these are pretty nice. I can't really equate them to a NOS Tung Sol in any way shape or form. That is just Mike Mathews' marketing hype. I suppose these are a little like a CBS Hytron, GE, RCA or some other nondescript 12AX7. Tung Sol 12AX7s were never considered anything special, and I guess these fit that category rather well. Medium gain, lower noise, and decent tone.
