I was surprised at the ease of setup! Like the previous review, I too replaced some components (power cable, on/off switch, volume control knob). There is some hum, but it's not too awful. It absolutely drives the speaker well (Eminence American Alpha 6A). I haven't had a chance to build a good enclosure for the speaker, so I can't give a full review on the quality of sound, but I am not too concerned about it being crazy high fidelity - I am replicating an antique radio. For similar applications I would absolutely purchase it again. Can't beat the price compared to any other kit I've found, either. Upon further tinkering, I grounded the black wire not to the transformer housing like the instructions gave, but rather to the ground of the three-prong power receptacle (not included in the kit, but something I found to be essential). The amp is now dead quiet, and it sounds great. I have no complaints! Thank you, AES!
