Bought a matched quad for my vintage Motorola HiFi monoblocks.
Things went VERY well for the first few months till someone dropped something and broke one. Not their fault. Dropped a spare in and went about life.
13 months later I left for a two week vacation. I came home to find one of the tubes started arcing. On the tester it emits a purple glow with zero emissions.
The remaining tube on that pair made what others told me was "harmless blue glow". It wasn't so harmless. After a few days it flashed over.
So at least one pair out of my original quad prematurely failed. I suspect there was something wrong with the vacuum...even though I didn't see the usual symptom.
The amp has been checked out and all I can find is tube failure.
