The JJ is a wonderful complement to a 6L6-based power tube, and with comparatively low cost relative to other NOS preamp tubes. The standard 12AX7 works best unless your tube sockets are compatible with the gold-tined JJ preamp tube, and most amplifiers are built to accept the standard JJ 12AX7 tube.
