This product ;looks like what we called a " Vari loop stik" back in the 50's. I worked on a fire lookout (108 ft. tower) and my old Philco portable radio died so I used one of these and a crystal ("cats whisker") for a tuner and fed that into the final amplifer of the Philco so that I didn't need too use earphones.
