I love these carbon resistors for their great tone. For others who think them noisy, I have a tip for you: bake them in the oven at 175 or so for several hours then use a small modelers brush to put a coat of shellac on them. The heat will bake out the moisture and the shellac will seal them agains future moisture absorption. Has worked for me for many years.
