Report Review for product Kit - Pine Board Power Supply with 3 Outputs

It's great to be able to buy a well designed ABC battery eliminator for old radios with all parts furnished in a kit. The instructions are adequate and it is easy to identify the parts and polarities using the very clear illustrations. I was pleased that it worked perfectly when I finished soldering (using alligator clips as heat sinks) and am happily using it to power a 1925 Grebe Synchrophase farm radio that requires 6 volts for the filaments 90 and 45 volts for the plates (detector needs 45, all others 90) and -4.5 volts for the grid bias.

There are a number of items that are not supplied with the kit that I found it useful to add, and I'll mention in case they are of interest to others. They include an on/off slide switch (mounted with double stick foam tape to the side of the transformer); a fuse holder (mounted with a screw to the side of the wood block below the transformer); a three wire power wire (so I could use the green ground wire as the ground connection for my radio); two cable clips to secure the AC power wire to the wood block (I think using unsecured twist connectors for 120 VAC may pose a safety hazard); and a red LED (in series with a 220 ohm current limiting resistor) across the A+ and A- terminals as a powr on indicator.

For connections to the radio, I purchased 8 conductor, 19 gauge thermostat cable at Lowe's. Seven wires were used for the ABC power connections and the eighth for the ground connection. I secured with cable clips at the radio and power supply. This approach makes for a much neater installation than using individual wires.

Lastly, I found 9 conductor male and female power connectors at Radio Shack. When I buy another farm radio, I plan to insert these into the thermostat cable so that I can easily move the power supply from one radio to another.
