Replaced a Jensen C10R in a Gibson Skylark (10-watt mid-60s version). Is an interesting option to smooth out some of the harshness at higher volume and increase clarity. Received the amp with an overspec 12ax7 in the preamp as the original spec 12au7 is quiet. This speaker's high efficiency allows the 12au7 to achieve much improved volume and delivery - rounder, more musical.

Some thoughts on amplification factor for this preamp...

12au7 = ~20 times - original spec is a good thing

12ay7 = ~40 times - plenty of growl, a bit harsh, achieves feedback

12ax7 = ~100 times - mother of harsh, can fuzz and collapse signal

Great speaker! Installed the Ragin Cajin in a 1966 Fender Princeton Reverb that a previous owner had placed a cheap import speaker in. Fired it up and was really impressed with the sound!

It doesn't get any better for a 10 inch speaker. It thinks it's a 12. Low end is fabulous, clear with no fuzzyness, and the top is crystal-clear. It stays clean under high volume, so don't count on this speaker to distort on its own. What surprised me is how it sounds under low volume. It's much fuller than the original speakers I replaced them with. I strongly suggest two of these for all musicians who are using an amp with 2 -10s, like a Fender Vibrolux, or a Princeton Chorus. 2 - 10s move more air than a single 12 inch, and are clearer at all frequencies. Best 10" speaker I've ever used (Includes Jensen, Celestion, and other Eminence speakers)
