DeoxIT® - Caig, D5 Spray, Low-Medium-High Spray
DeoxIT® D5 is a contact cleaner featuring a deoxidizing solution that acts fast to dissolve oxides, sulfides, and corrosion that forms on metal. This cleaner can enhance conductivity without causing shorts, virtually eliminating intermittent signals while improving signal quality. DeoxIT® D5 fills in microscopic gaps to reseal surfaces. The protective coating acts as a lubricant to reduce wear and abrasion.
This can comes with an attachable straw that fits in the adjustable spray nozzle for a controlled flushing action.
DeoxIT® D5 is safe on plastics.

Used Caig D5 to clean and lubricate a 1932 radio with a very noisy volume control. After a short spray, the noisy pot was now a quiet one. I suggest being careful that you don't saturate your device with spray. A very little is all that's needed. You are reading this advice from a guy with more than 55 years experience RESTORING versus just repairing any older electronic device. Good luck with your project!
Good product I have always used it.
The Low Medium High nozzle allows me to dribble small amounts into a guitar's pots through a pot cleaner cap without spilling the DeoxIt onto the finish. !!!DO '"NOT"" EVER TRY THIS YOURSELF!!! I use an O ring if I can or Teflon tape to seal the brass pot cleaner caps onto the pots to minimize leakage. This stuff ""!!!WILL DAMAGE LACQUER AND NITROCELLULOSE!!!"" finishes. It is mostly mineral spirits. In amp pots, I can also put this in with the pot caps and not have to open up the chassis. !DO NOT TRY THIS EITHER! Be careful with this stuff, and it will do a fantastic job of cleaning and preserving, jacks, potentiometers, all kinds of switches, electromechanical relay contacts, motor shaft slip ring contacts on motors, electrical lighting and motor contactors, model train wheel contacts, and many other electrical contacts. It will damage rubber, lacquer, shellac, screen printing ink, styrene plastics, etc.
Buying any other brand of contact cleaner is a total waste of money and time. When used correctly this along with DeoxIT 100% does the job right the first time, and keeps things working over time. I never run out of this. It's one of those things that is worth every cent of the cost.
Caig makes this product in a standard spray can or in this form which allows for 3 separate spray intensities which can be dialed in on the top of the can. A great feature when you want to use it on a delicate component or just want to be able to control the stream; use high pressure to blast dirt and oxide off surfaces or dial it back when you want to conserve product use and don't need to bring out the artillery. I got this for restoration work on potentiometers and ceramic switches; works great.
In the name of all that is right and true in the world, buy THIS version of Caig DeOxIt D5, DO NOT BUY THE VERSION THAT IS SOLD WITH THE "PERFECT STRAW"!! Unless you enjoy a leaky defective wasteful spray head that randomly pops off the can, and pools 80% of the spray stream as blow-by in the exterior top of the can.
Glad the old style spray can is available through AES. Not a fan of the new flip nozzle offered by most other suppliers: messy and wasteful.
