Product Reviews
this version of the 5y3 is actually indirectly heated, with the cathode internally connected to a heater pin. care must be taken when using indirectly heated rectifyers as they are more sensitive to excessive current and will “flash-over” and short from cathode to plate.
Order was very promptly shipped. Tested tube as soon as I received it and it tested good and strong.
The tube rattled in a Fender Champ as received - this is not a high-powered combo. Poor tube quality and the cost to ship back made it not worth returning (AES offered a refund on return, though). Never again, Sovtek!
I have always had good experience with Sovtek rectifier tubes. This is the first 5Y3GT I have used from them, as my usual tube is the 5U4GB. The original 5Y3GT was a filament/cathode type, but this tube appears to be a modified version that may be a heater/cathode type. I am not certain of that, but I can say the performance is excellent and the plates allow for greater heat dissipation than the original design.
