Capacitors

Capacitors are passive devices that are used in almost all electrical circuits for rectification, coupling and tuning. Also known as condensers, a capacitor is simply two electrical conductors separated by an insulating layer called a dielectric. The conductors are usually thin layers of aluminum foil, while the dielectric can be made up of many materials including paper, mylar, polypropylene, ceramic, mica, and even air. Electrolytic capacitors have a dielectric of aluminum oxide which is formed through the application of voltage after the capacitor is assembled. Characteristics of different capacitors are determined by not only the material used for the conductors and dielectric, but also by the thickness and physical spacing of the components.

Capacitor - CDE, 500V, Silver Mica, Radial Lead, ±5%
High quality silver mica capacitors rated at 500V. These epoxy dipped capacitors made by Cornell Dubilier have a ±5% tolerance. The terminals are made of copper clad steel with a nickel undercoat and a 100% tin finish. Stability and mica go hand-in-hand when you need to count on stable capacitance over a wide temperature range. CDE’s standard dipped silvered mica capacitors are the first choice for timing and close tolerance applications.

Capacitor - Mod® Electronics, Aluminum Electrolytic, 105°C, Axial Lead
Mod® Electronics electrolytic capacitors provide builders with quality capacitors that offer long-lasting performance at the highest degree. These capacitors are designed with tube amplifiers in mind; each capacitor is rated at 105°C. This temperature rating provides a highly-stable capacitance in any device, be it vacuum tube or solid state. The Mod® electrolytic capacitor line features capacitance values that are common in many vintage amplifiers but are not readily available today. Builders and techs can confidently use these capacitors to match the original specifications of their equipment.

Capacitor - SoZo, 500V, NexGen Blue Molded Vintage
The BlueMolded line of polyester film capacitors are retrofits for Astron or Blue Molded caps used in vintage tweed, brown, and blackface Fenders®. These capacitors amazingly capture vintage Fender® tones of the Blackface era, and the famous 1959 tweed 5F6-A Bassman era which is so musical and good, Marshall™ modeled their amps after them! After years of painstaking research and development, in 2003 SoZo Amplification began manufacturing the SoZo Mustard Cap™ capacitors, which quickly caught on among discriminating musicians and amp designers.
