The 1N34A Germanium diode is an old standby in electronics. Widely used for detecting the rectifying efficiency or for switching on a radio, TV or stereo etc.

Features:

  • Flat junction capacitance
  • High mechanical strength

Applications:

  • AM/FM detectors
  • Ratio detectors
  • FM discriminators
  • TV audio detectors
  • RF input proves
  • TV video detectors

Note: This is a suplus item. Due to the age of the components, the leads will have varying amounts of oxidation which may need to be removed.

These are actually 1N270 diodes and not 1N34A. They clearly have the green cathode marking and the product images show curve traces that indicate these are 1N270s and not 1N34A. I'm giving them 3 stars because 1N270s are awesome too, but for anyone who is looking specifically for 1N34A diodes, that is not what these are.

Probably the best low hassle germanium diode for use in guitar pedals. Use two in series to replace one Si diode as hard clippers and get more "hair". If you mix brands of 1N34A it works even better. You can also just add one AN34A to the Si diode in most pedals to give you more clean output, but the distortion has a bit more bite to it. Great for making asymmetrical clippers. The diodes you buy here will be the real deal vintage old stock. These are not "fakes" that are simular to Ge diodes. These are the real ones you want. You might even have to clean the leads before soldering becuase they have been in the box since 1972...
