Effects Kit - Mod® Electronics, The Wave, Spring Reverb
The Mod® Electronics Wave is a versatile stand-alone, tube-driven analog spring-reverb-unit kit. It can be used in front of your guitar amp or as a line-level analog reverb effect for the recording studio. Two controls allow you to serve up a wide range of wetness from just a touch to over the top psychedelia. The Dwell control adjusts the input signal level driving the tank and the Reverb control adjusts the level of output reverberations from the tank. The Wave’s all tube design utilizes four dual triode vacuum tubes - three 12AX7s and one 12AT7 - and comes with a MOD® three-spring reverb tank. MOD® reverb tanks are deemed the closest to the original reverb tanks from the '60s made today. The Wave’s reverb function can be switched in and out pop-free via the front panel toggle or with a foot switch (purchased separately).
The Wave has standard ¼ inch in-and-out guitar jacks in the front for use with your guitar and amp, and standard RCA in-and-out jacks in the back panel for use in a recording environment. The Wave is equipped to be rack mounted using just under 3U of space and is approximately 11 inches deep front to back. Four large rubber feet allow the Wave to be safely placed on top of most contemporary guitar amplifier heads and combos for stage use, and it fits into a rack without having to remove the feet. The Wave comes with a pre-punched powder coated steel chassis, easy-to-follow instructions and all necessary parts.

For use in countries with a 240VAC mains, P-T290WEX can be used in place of the included power transformer. The P-T290WEX cannot be substituted in the kit and will need to be purchased separately.

I have built two of these units. Good quality from the chassis to other components.its a fun build and sounds good. Way to go antique Electronics! Long time customer. A well design kit. I need to figure out how to label front and rear panels.
Nice kit with good instructions with one exception. Sounds good. Gets the Fender stand alone sound although they could have added the tone control. It also gets way over the top reverb if you are also looking for the signal from the pan with little of the source mixed in.
One small criticism. Its a painted chassis and filing out the screw holes per the directions doesn't get you reliable grounds. I removed the paint and soldered directly to the chassis in a few places to get proper grounding.
I just completed building the kit. The parts and chassis are good quality. The tubes are nice JJ 12AX7 and 12AT7. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. I only had a couple of bugs (bad solder joints) which were easy to find. There was more than enough wire to build the kit. You need a thin rat tail file to remove paint from the inside edges of the chassis holes; my file just barely fit the smaller screw holes. The kit comes with a nice long power cord. The unit sounds very good. One suggestion, it would be nice if the face place was exactly 2 rack units tall; I have a 3 unit head shell which mates perfectly with the mounting holes; however, there is 1/2 gap between the face plate and a standard spacer. Also, a label decal kit would be nice; I plan to make my own. I recommend this kit, it was fun to build and is very solid pieced of professional equipment. It appears to be a copy of a fender unit. I looked up the part numbers of the transformers and they are replacement parts for the stand alone fender reverb. Good luck with yours.
I'm very impressed by the quality of this kit from the component parts included, to the clarity and detail of the instructions and troubleshooting guide, to the sound of the unit. Shades of Heathkit! I think The Wave is a very good value.
I just finished my kit and I really enjoyed the build. The instructions are well done. I did a few steps a little differently, but nothing drastically different. I just have my own preferences on a few things based on past build experience. I also used metal film resistors throughout.
The Wave produces a rich BIG reverb. Sounds VERY nice.
Now the tweaking can begin... If you are an experienced builder, this thing has SO MUCH potential for tweaking. There is a TON of room inside the chassis... this kit could easily be used to make a full two-channel preamp with a one-tube reverb and active effects loop with a few extra parts. I'm thinking of converting it to a push-pull reverb design and trying to decide what to do with the unused triode 4b. Tremolo? Foot-switchable extra gain stage? So many options for tweaking. Because of the quality chassis and parts it comes with, I also may buy another and build a nice rack-mount preamplifier out of it.
