This premium Russian tube is not your basic Sovtec with a groovy lion graphic. The materials and construction are completely different. I use these in a Hi-Fi application where they have the tone and response that, in my opinion, is the best of all new production tubes out there. These have been compared to NOS vintage flavors and hold their own. Why more expensive? I'm not sure but JJ's are a great alternate dollar wise but these sound better for Hi-Fi goodness and to me are worth the extra bucks.

Guitar amp distortion and clipping is unknown. I tried 'em in a 60's VOX 15W push-pull combo and they sounded clean with warm, gentle clipping when the knob was maxed. That old VOX (Cambridge Reverb) is not a master volume rig so I can't really push them. Beware the bottle size is not the standard 6BQ5 so they may have a fitment concern in your application.

Got to recommend Antique E-Supply as a great vendor with excellent packing and service. With all stated here - you indeed get what you pay for. I have found E-bay is not my friend when tube fishing.

I took the risk and paid the premium cost to try one of these Gold Lion EL84's in my Marshall Class 5 head. It's been close a year since I installed it and it's still going strong and it sounds fantastic! The stock JJ power tube was ok but this was definite upgrade. Love this tube!
