Machine heads without a sealed gear are criticized for not having the same smooth performance, efficiency and durability that sealed gear tuners have. The SD series solves these problems by combining "Rock-solid" technology and the post collar or: "Self-Center Guide", found on enclosed gears in the base plate of the gear allowing the post to perfectly align itself with the bushing which attaches the gear to the headstock. The V-Treb Variable Treble Bleed Circuit for guitar and bass is available pre-installed on high quality volume pots from CTS and Bourns. The circuit corrects the problem of high frequency losses at reduced volumes by allowing the player to control how bright or warm the tone will get as the volume control is reduced. Turning the trim pot clockwise increases the amount of treble bypass for a brighter sound at reduced volumes. Turning the trim pot counter clockwise reduces the amount of treble bypass for a warmer tone at reduced volumes. With the volume at 10, the V-Treb is removed from the circuit and does not affect the sound. The V-Treb circuit also also available separately for use on any other volume pot.
