It is going to depend on your application and this is something we would not be able to advise you on.

Typical current for these is 10-20mA; typical voltage drop across the LED should be 2.1V or so. To drop 7v at that current 390-680 ohms will keep you in the safe zone.

The MOD Kits use an 820 Ohm resistor.

5 out of 5

A great little holder and all, but the LED refuses to light up with any brightness, although I've tried a bunch of resistor/voltage/mA combinations. Ultimately, it's way too dim for a power indicator light. I bought several at the same time and am having the same results with each one. (I admit to a certain amount of ignorance regarding how bright they should actually be in technical terms, but it's nowhere near as bright as other 20mA LEDs I have on hand, so I'm using one of them instead.)
