Holes would need to be drilled into the chassis of the amplifier to install these retainers in your amp.

The type of screw/bolt can be determined by the user, but the diameter of the screw hole on these retainers is 0.15"/3.9mm.

Will this work with el84 tubes? The ones I bought like this design specified for el84 tubes do not work. The springs are too short.

These will not work with EL84 tubes. The S-H144 will work with EL84s and the S-H145 will work with specialized sockets that some EL84s use. Please see the technical drawing in that listing for details.

Will these fit 6V6 style output tubes? I want to put these in a 1979 Silverface Princeton Reverb to help keep the output tubes in.

5U4GBs can vary in size depending on the manufacturer, so it is advised you refer to the technical drawing of these retainers to ensure it will work for your application.

I think I might have been supplied with the wrong part for bigger tubes. These are too long for my 6L6's and I had to shorten the springs which was very fiddly. The result looks pretty junky to be honest.
These spring retainers were just what I needed to replace the old bear trap retainers in my Mesa Boogie Mark 2b and 65 Fender twin. Combo amps are hard on tubes anyway but add the gravity pull and vibration to the hanging tubes and you can have potential problems. These retainers support the tubes nicely, keeping them snug to the sockets. Highly recommended.
They look good, went in no problem, do what they are supposed to. A good upgrade from tubes just hanging or the thin wire clip type that slip off. If your amp has tubes pointed down and the amp travels at all get these.
