Speakers. The last opportunity to modify your tone. Unlike hi-fi speakers which attempt to create sounds that are true to the musical source fed them, guitar speakers impart their own tone.
Your amp/cabinet pretty much determines three things about what speaker to select; speaker size, impedance and power rating. (See our tech corner article on Speaker Impedance, Power Handling and Wiring). But the tone is up to you! Speaker replacement is probably the easiest mod you can perform.
The Mod 15-200 is a 15" ferrite speaker with 200 watts of power. Tight low-end with clear bright highs. It responds to overdrive distortion with a rhythm crunch and fuzz lead voice.
British lead/rhythm guitar 12" speaker. The epitome of British tone with a complete tonal balance, grunt and punch in the lows, warm/tailored mids, and nice, clear, open/airy highs.
The Tornado Stealth 80 is the Neodymium counterpart of the ceramic powered Electric Lightning. The Stealth 80 is extremely efficient, with slightly scooped mids, and it shines in the cleanest as well as in the heaviest tonal applications. It delivers exceptional punch and attack, retaining all the clarity needed for palm-muted riffs and power chords, as well as crystal clear clean rhythm playing.
The Raptor is one of the newest Jensen speakers, released after a long time in development refining the ideal qualities of a contemporary, sophisticated, touch responsive speaker. The result is a 100W ceramic speaker with a characteristic, vocal, rounded midrange and a silky-smooth top end, all based on a solid, fat and firm bass foundation. Eminently versatile, the Raptor is equally suitable to clean, crunch and lead tones.
The 1801 is an 8 ohm, 18" Black Widow/Super Structure speaker which offers the ultimate in deep, extended, bass response while maintaining a high sensitivity and high power capability. This is the woofer of choice for discos subwoofers, special effects, or anywhere low end punch and impact are a must! A long throw voice coil and Kevlar impregnated cone team up for excellent linearity.
The RX14 compression driver is designed for excellent driver performance, reliability and power handling. With over 25 years experience in compression driver design and manufacturing, Peavey is proud to add the all-new RX14 compression driver to its transducer line.
MECHANICS:
The RX14 is capable of higher power handling than most similiar-sized compression drivers and incorporates a 1.4" voice coil. The RX14 is designed with a solid one-piece titanium diaphragm and a Kapton high-temperature coil former with copper-clad aluminum coil wire for an increase in the overall motor efficiency. The one-piece titanium diaphragm reduces the amount of moving mass, extending the high frequency response of the driver. Ferrofluid cooling is used in the RX14 for improved reliability and smoother frequency response.
