Brush-on adhesive ideal for applying tolex. Cleans up with soap and water. No nasty solvents required. Does not stretch or shrink the vinyl. Comes in quarts or gallons.

Specifications:

  • Tolex Glue is a non-flammable, Neoprene based, water borne adhesive formulated to bond tolex and vinyl to wood and wood based substrates.
  • Min. use temp: 45°F
  • Freezes at 32°F and lower
  • Shelf Life: 6 Months

Directions: Surfaces to be bonded must be clean. Apply a very thin coat to both surfaces. Very porous surfaces may require more than one coat. Second coat should not be applied until first has dried. Allow to 'flash off' for 20-30 minutes. Cloudy areas indicate incomplete drying. This time can be shortened with forced air and/or heat. Position pieces carefully prior to bringing surfaces together as bond is made instantly. A pinch or J-roller roller is recommended to obtain proper mating.

Clean Up: Cleans up easily with warm soapy water.

Store tightly closed at room temperature. DO NOT Freeze.

Cautions or Warnings: for industrial use only. Consult MSDS prior to use

Please note that because grill cloth/tolex needs to be cut, we cannot accept any returns on these items. Small tolex samples are available for evaluation by ordering part S-GSAMPLE. You can also order a full set of all of our Tolex samples by ordering S-GSG2.

This stuff is pretty bad, it dries immediately on your brush or roller and dries as long or longer than solvent based glue once applied. It likes to unravel when it gets a bit of that tube heat. 2x as expensive as regular solvent contact cement. Just go to home depot and get the good stuff for cheap.

Works perfectly. Just make sure you let the glue dry till its pretty clear. It works much better than the spray stuff and cleans up really easy.

Works great! I used it for tweed fabric. It is easy to apply and is forgiving if you need to reposition a piece....just don’t wait too long. Follow the instructions with regard to flash time. If you don’t wait for glue to turn from white to clear you will see dark areas under the tweed. Luckily it can be fixed with a hair dryer but it takes a while .

MY EXPERIANCE.. I had a wood panel of 8" x 17" on which I drizzled a figure "8" and started brushing... the product had already started coagulating on the wood (3 maybe 4 seconds) and a gentle brush stroke pulled it up and into the fluid reserve of the "drizzled 8". It would not dissolve into the just puddled product and the Tolex vinyl (@ 20/1000 thick) would have been lumpy! I could not brush it out!! The skim was scum! I used about 1.5 oz. or less.... It would not dissolve in soapy water so there went my paint brush! I had to use 0000 steel wool to remove and clean the wood for a different product. A total waste of my money. my time, my paint brush and effort!! BUY IT AT YOUR OWN RISK! fs

I'm about 2/3 of the way through my most challenging tolex job to date and I gotta say I absolutely LOVE working with this stuff over my past experiences with the contact cement/spray adhesive combo. I can actually do my tolexing on my large granite kitchen island which means temperature control (100+ degrees F in the garage!) and a large extremely flat surface to work on.

Good Stuff.
FYI because it sounded like I would need at least a quart for a 4x12 cabinet I bought a gallon. For a 4x12 Marshall cabinet AND a 4x12 Fender Tonemaster cabinet I used just over a quart. This stuff goes a long way. Anyone need 2 1/2 quarts? ;^)

Easy to work with, and no offensive chemical odors. Haven't had it long enough to know how long-term adhesion will be, but this made applying Tolex a far less painful job than you'd expect.
