2N404A PNP germanium transistors. The 2N404A is used in many fuzz pedals along with other effects. The 2N404A is the same as the 2N404 but with a higher voltage rating. This transistor is in a TO-5 package with long leads commonly found on germanium transistors.

I've bought 20 of these now, they are excellent quality. The hfe ranges on them between 90 and 260 @ 5ma with < 100uA leakage. They are perfect for Fuzz Faces, Treble Boosters, Harmonic Percolators, Tone Bender Mk IIIs and even Big Muffs. They are not suitable for Maestro Fuzz tones or Tone Bender Mk I and II's due to the very low leakage currents.
