Product Reviews
Another flashover incident. It's unfortunate JJ has not fixed this known issue. I am not hot switching and the latest 5AR4 in a 300B amp flashed.
It shorted out after 2 minutes of warm-up. Ran for a minute after cooling off then would blow a fuse every time.
I have purchased these before, they seem to work fine. Its crazy the things we do. We buy tubes to make dc instead of ac when two 20 cent diodes would do what an expensive tube does. I have found JJ tubes to work well in most situations. I bought some tubes so I will have some spares when I do need them. It could be days or years before I need them, but good to have on hand. Thank You
Tube looks great
Original GZ34s are too expensive. This remake seems to do quite well in an older Fender amplifier replacing a 5Y3.
I tried two of these tubes and one failed after 30 minutes, the second (a replacement) immediately developed a cathode to filament short power was applied.
Vintage, used 5V4 and 5AR4 tubes are running reliably in this transmitter, however.
I would suggest avoiding JJ brand tubes, it has been very frustrating and an
expensive lesson, with all of the return postage, and loss of the tubes.
Bought a JJ 5AR4 for a Heathkit AA-111 amplifier that I'm restoring/updating.
It's working well and I decided to pick up a couple more for spares. Hard to beat the price!
Excellent choice for my vintage Princeton Reverb
Great service and communication.
I purchased this tube (GZ34S) in for use in a Dynaco ST-70 I rebuilt. It worked great for about 5 weeks then I accidentally hot switched the amp and the rectifier promptly flashed over internally. Yes, this is my fault but upon examination of the tube under the magnifier the cathode and plate connections on one side were just too close to each other.
I rated the tube a 3-star for product construction, perhaps this is too harsh but darn it...
On the other hand, I am very happy this was only a $15.00 tube! I would buy it again, especially for trying out new constructions and first time power up.
