Solid rectifier tube. I wanted something that ran voltages significantly lower than a 5AR4 in a 6v6 cathode biased amp. This fit the bill perfectly and is working well. I love the folks at Antique Electronic Supply. They always ship quickly and they've been there for me since the late '90s.

I acquired a 1937 Wards Airline radio chassis in working condition but with a couple of weak / bad tubes , the rectifier and magic eye.
The magic eye I was able to replace with one I had but the rectifier tube I decided to go with a brand new tube and the one from JJ Electronics fit the bill for it's price and quality. Working like a charm. Thanks.

Just the right amount of sag in either a 5E3 or a Valco 9035.

As far as I know these are the only authentic 5Y3 tubes being made anywhere in the world. The Sovtek and Chinese variations are not quite the same thing - though they are safe for most all amps that use a 5Y3 - the JJ supplies the correct B+ (LOWER). I haven't had any issues with the two i'm using. One can get a bad tube once in a great while but hey thats the great thing about buying new tubes from a dealer like AES ..you get one, you can send it back for replacement. No can do with 75 year old tube from Ebay..

I always test my new tubes on a tester before putting them in service. The new JJ 5Y3S tested weak, almost into the red on the tube tester.

Great value. Worked nicely in a silverface champ.

The JJ 5Y3 seems to be a really well constructed current production tube. Unlike the Sovtek, which has a sleeved heater, the JJ is the traditional style. While has a higher forward voltage drop than the Sovtek, some older equipment cannot handle the higher B+ of the Sovtek. I really like this JJ tube.

I reviewed the JJ 5Y2S rectifier tube and found it to be rated for high voltage and directly heated, like the original RCA 5Y2GC that came in my Supro. I have been playing the amp a lot and see no coloring or degradation of signal or plate voltage. I would recommend this tube as a cost-effective replacement.
