Not many in the US, but I think there was a transformerless amp that used EL509s…I have this Soviet Omak Jewel II srereo amplifier that uses the EL509 as an output tube. Good neutral tube all around. Last forever!

The EL-509 was used in Eastern Europe / Soviet TVs as a Horizontal Sweep Tube.
The tube pin circle diameter arc is 17.45 mm, which is same as North American
6MJ6 / 6LQ6 / 6JE6C Beam Power (Sweep) Tubes.

HOWEVER,
EL-509 Tubes uses Larger pins, 1.27mm diameter, (Magnoval), B9D base (IEC 67-I-36a)
6MJ6 / 6LQ6 / 6JE6C Tubes uses Smaller pins, 1.02mm diameter, (Novar), B9E base.
