These tubes helped restore a Fisher 400 beautifully. Yes, the pins are a little bigger than the ones on vintage tubes, but the situation is not so bad. Make sure that none of the contact leaves in the socket are bent. Then make sure all of the pins on the tube are straight. Place the tube on top of the socket and check that all the pin tips are centered on their respective socket contacts. Then just rock the tube in small circles while pushing down gently. Go slow and everything will be fine.
They sounded great from the start. These tubes produced more output and no detectable degradation in sound form the original outputs. One of the tubes devolved an issues after several hours however. I called AES and got an RA right away. Looking forward to the new set! 4 stars due to the minor issue, but I must say the tubes sounded better then expected.
Tube envelope is extremely thin and brittle. I have pulled and installed hundreds of tubes and have never had them break in the process. But two of these broke on me. The pins are larger than normal, so you have to really spread the contacts so that the tubes go in with a loose fit. Unfortunately, these are the only 7868 in current production so you have no choice if you want matched tubes. No complaints about AES but EH should either make a smaller pin or a thicker glass envelope!
The pins on the tubes are too big and they will not go into the socket. As always the shipping is fast and service is great. Just this tube is not going to fit into the tube sockets.
